VRRP Configuration Example

PIM Configuration

In this setup, the PC is configure with IP address 10.10.10.1 and Default Gateway 10.10.10.100 i.e. a virtual address.

  • Both the routers are using VRRP configuration in which we have defined the Hello-source- address, Peer Address, Priority, Virtual Address and VRID.
  • The Hello source address for R1 is 10.10.10.40 and for R2, is 10.10.10.50.
  • The Peer address on router R1 for R2 is 10.10.10.50 and similarly at R2 for R1 is 10.10.10.40
  • The path with higher priority will be preferred as the primary path. The priority on R1 is set to 200 and on R1 it is set to 100.
  • Virtual address will remain same on both the routers that is 10.10.10.100.
  • Virtual Router ID is configured on router that is 201.

Router R1 is configured to be in “master state” and Router R2 to be in “backup state”. If the primary path between R1 and switch get disconnected due to any reason, the secondary path will become the primary path for data transfer.

The above mentioned features are offered and supported by VCL-MX-50xx family of IP/MPLS Routers.
