OSPFv2 Configuration

Note: The I.P addresses configured between the routers are in the format of 192.168.x.x/24 for routers.

In this setup, 2 PC are connected with the routers. The routers R1, R2, R3 and R4 have been configured with a dynamic routing protocol – Open Shortest Path First protocol.

The routers R1, R2, R3 and R4 have been configured such as the area is set to 0.0.0.0 with router-id 1.1.1.1, 2.2.2.2, 3.3.3.3 and 4.4.4.4 respectively.

The connectivity is made such that the PC1 is able to ping PC2 through the routers. Routers maintain an OSPF database that is synchronised with all the connected routers. In the routers, 3 different tables are maintained which are Neighbor Table, Topology Table, and Routing Table.

  1. The Neighbor Table of the router keeps a record of the all the neighboring routers. Considering the database of router R1, it would maintain a neighbor table which will have information for neighbor Router R2, R3 and R4.
  2. The Topology Table of the router keeps a list of all possible routes to all known networks within the same area. Considering the database of router R1, it would maintain a topology table which will have information about all possible routes to Router R2, R3 and R4.
  3. The Routing Table keeps a record of best known route in the topology which helps the packet to reach the destination through the topology efficiently. Considering the database of router R1, it would maintain a routing table which will have information about best route to Router R2, R3 and R4.
